*NEW* About Me

About me

Hi! My name’s Gabriel Landriault, and since I was thirteen I’ve been a stone picker, farm hand, fishing guide, street punk, daycare manager, bouncer, large-installation landscaper, photographer, award-winning newspaper columnist [link] and reporter [link] — mostly I covered Internet Privacy Issues. Currently I’m mostly an amateur photographer and father to my 14-year old son, Victor, and my ten-year old son, Quintin.

I was born in Montreal and since then I’ve had more than fifty addresses. [Relatively] recently I signed my first book deal and have already spent all three pre-published advances on hockey tickets, rent, whole wheat bagels and some very nice towels so consider this my resumé. I’m usually about six feet tall.

My advice to anyone who asks: spend at least three years between high school and university; drink a lot of pure orange juice; learn one song on the harmonica; never take nude photos of the woman you love; at least once get really baked on high quality hash, and; for at least a year live somewhere a thousand miles from where you feel safest.

A long time ago I was the primary photographer for a monthly technology newspaper in Ottawa, and my photos also ended up in some national magazines. ‘Photography’ was also part of a two-year program I took at Algonquin College in Ottawa, and I was kind of the Assistant Photo Editor for the journalism program’s newspaper for about twenty minutes.

Mostly I take photos in and around Vankleek Hill [Wiki], a lovely Canadian village of 2,100 mostly interesting people 70kms from Montreal, Cornwall and Ottawa [Google Maps]. But I’ve taken photos for a lot of weird events and in some weird places… one time I was paid to take photos backstage at a Britney Spears concert in Toronto. Seriously.

I started this Blog as a personal thing in 2011 but, in August, 2013, I thought this space would be a great opportunity to showcase local photographers and their work. So I started The VKH Photo Club [Facebook]. Currently I am taking time off from The Club to recover from a bunch of things, and raise my two children. Sometimes I will write about them.

…I’m working on getting The Club back together. “Kneel before Zod” is a Superman reference.

…and now some photos from my life. If you’re down with it, just click any photo to get the carousel going.
