It’s a town-wide yard sale. That’s pretty much it…
The Vankleek Hill Business & Merchants Association (VKHBMA) has been putting on this event for twenty of the past 22-years… with two years off due to people dying in the streets — which is pretty much what it takes to cancel an Event in VKH.
At its height, the Event brought a couple of thousand visitors to VKH. I got to this one a little late, like basically two hours after it started, and apparently I missed the big crowd. Which makes sense, because the first rule of picking is to be the first one picking. According to one of the Vendors I talked to, last year’s Trash & Treasure was Huge… this one, he said, was about average.
I’m not sure how much money the VKHBMA makes on this Event… I know they charge $25 for a 10×10 space. So, with maybe 75-100 spaces rented out… maybe a few thousand dollars. Which isn’t chump change for a small organization [link].
Just by a quick show of hands, I’d say there were about a thousand people wandering around Vankleek Hill searching for Beanie Babies, Hot Wheels, barely together furniture that kind of looks antique but was probably just old, other stuff… I was happy to find a DVD of ‘District 9’ [link], but when I opened the case it was a CD-R pirated copy. So that was my day shot.
Regardless… I did enjoy the day out. Click on a photo to get the carousel going. Or not. No pressure.

That looks like a fun event. Too bad about the pirated CD-R.

…my copy wore out a few weeks ago, so I was a little crushed. But I’ll move on when I’m ready. It is a fun event, but it’s pretty low key though. The next Big Event is in two weeks, it’s the Truck / Tractor Pull (https://vkhphotos.org/2019/07/13/vkh-truck-pull/) so I should have something a little more dynamic to shoot.
Thanks for the comment, Brad. It’s good to see you.
