According to StatsCanada, in 2022 there were 830,000 motorcycles (and mopeds) registered in Canada… give or take [Stats here], in contrast there were about 25,000,000 cars and trucks registered at the same time. But none of them were having the same amount of fun.
I’ve ridden a bike before, but never as a driver, always as the pillion rider… and I made a lousy passenger the few times I did that. I can remember getting on a bike with a friend when I was 17-years old, and driving very fast down Autoroute Décarie in Montreal. When we came to our exit I leaned away from the turn, instead of following the drivers lead and leaning into the turn, because I had no idea that doing so was a very bad idea… like a really really bad idea.
The only reason we didn’t totally lay the bike down at high speed was a testament to the drivers skill and intense luck. Mostly the luck. I do know that I haven’t been on a bike since, and that’s probably for the best for all concerned.
I brought Quintin with me to this weeks ‘Bike Night in Hawkesbury’ and he, having never seen a real one before, thought the choppers were very cool. He also asked why everyone who drove a Harley had long hair and a big beard. I was about to explain to him that was a bit of a stereotype, but just then two bikes passed close to us and both riders had long hair and big beards. So I told him it was a cultural thing.
*…the ‘throwing the horns’ hand gesture means either ‘Rock On’ or an enthusiastic ‘F!ck Yeah’, but mostly both, and the people at Bike Night were definitely enthusiastic about Rocking on Friday night.
…anyway, Bike Night in Hawkesbury is a pretty cool Event, and not just for bikers, there were a lot people in the crowd just there for the beer, the music, and catching up with friends. Fascinating variety of bikes!

For sure! Riding is pretty big around here, there are lots of riding clubs from Québec, Ottawa, and Cornwall that tour this region because of the local backroads, nearby highways, good restaurants, scenery and the mountains across the river.
