Holy crap that was a busy week… I took photos at a great concert at the Windsor Tavern in Vankleek Hill, spent two nights taking shots at Hawkesbury’s Multicultural Festival, while watching several excellent performers, I took more photos at a great show featuring ‘Stew & The Silver Hawks’ at Beau’s Brewery on Friday evening, then the Monster Truck and Truck Pull Show at Vankleek Hill’s Fair Grounds all day Saturday.
Busy busy busy. This week also has Hawkesbury’s second BikeFest of the season, there’s another amazeballs concert at the Windsor Tavern, a new vernissage of great art at the Arbor Gallery in Vankleek Hill that I’d like to take photos of, plus there’s a huge charity concert at the Windsor parking lot on Saturday afternoon… so, lots of photos coming up on my little site. And I still have to post the photos of Stew and his band. Maybe I need an assistant.
…speaking of job opportunities, I’m actually thinking of registering myself as a business, and, kind of, you know, asking people to pay for the photos I take for their Events. It’s not that expensive, I think it’s basically $60 to get it done, then there’s insurance costs, but there’s also grants to get something started. It won’t be anything huge, or that will make a lot of money — mostly because I’m officially, government certified, Disabled, so I receive a certain amount of Government Benefits that are automatically taken away if I were to make more than specific amount of cash per month. And I really do need that particular social safety net. I’m putting together a business plan over the next few weeks, and even have a really really cool name for my little corporate adventure.
In the meantime I will continue to shoot local Events, and charge the Event-people solely in tickets to their Funky Happenings. For example, I shot the Monster Trucks / Shiny Big Rigs / Truck Pull in return for tickets to the Event for myself, my oldest son and his best friend… so that would come out to $60 for the five hours I spent taking photos there, plus all the free bottles of water I could handle.
The Truck Show was very cool, as always. In it’s history, I think this is only the third year where they’ve had Monster Trucks as part of the event, but they’ve quickly become the main draw for the day-long show. The Review, our local paper of record, were even kind enough to post eight (!) of my photos from the Event on their website [here], so that was cool.
…anyway, it was a very cool week. And here I thought you already were a business, charging something for all these photos (and all your time).
