Photos Of The 182nd Vankleek Hill Fair: Round One — feat. Thursday Night’s Parade, Opening Ceremonies, Extreme Rodeo, And The Midway

If taking photos of Events was a job, I would be living proof of the maxim “if you do what you love, you’ll never work in your life”… which is weird for a lot of reasons — one of them being, you know, work is Work no matter how much you love your hobby, but mostly because taking photos of Events and Other Stuff is what I’ll be doing in my new part-time job at The Review [home here] starting in September. A bunch of my photos of the VKH Fair have already been published in The Review [here].

That’s right, a regular paycheque for regular work, it’s only a few hours per week, but it means no more Freelancing for milk money, now I’ll be able to afford the cereal as well. And not just the generic stuff either, I’m talking Name Brand cereal… no more “Joes O’s” or “Fruity Circles” [more here] for me, from now on it’s all “Franken Berry” all the time.

…this years VKH Fair featured some new Events that were an instant hit with the huge crowd, like the ‘Wildtime Rodeo’ [home here] with the bareback broncos, bull riders, light-horse racing, and mini-chuck wagon races all on Thursday night. To be honest, I’ve been either attending the VKH Fair or taking photos of it, for at least thirty-years now (holy crap… I’m getting old), and I’ve never seen bigger crowds than this past weekend.

    • Thanks so much, Susan, and thanks for the comment. I’ve seen some on TV, but I’ve never been to a rodeo before… it was very impressive. They had some of the top Canadian and US riders, even some who had been at the Calgary Stampede and the ProRodeo Series. Very cool stuff.

  2. The fourth to last picture – the boy in the tie dye tee and the girl holding the red stuffed bear. I love how it reminded me of going to the fair in the late ’80s, and then the contrast of her Apple watch reminded me it’s 2026, so cool!

    • Thanks, McGeek!! I liked that one as well… the red colours really pop, while everything else in the photo is washed out from the LED lights. Plus, the Elmo looks like he’s trying to hide from his public in the background. Thanks for the comment!
