This weekend is the annual Vankleek Hill Horse and Buggy Parade, which is quickly followed by a Strawberry Social… which may or may not involve the ritual sacrificing of horses. I don’t know, I don’t plan these things.
It all starts at 1.30pm on Sunday, July 3. The route is always packed with people, but there are always great sight lines. Once you see a horse you like, just tell one of the parade officials, and they’ll make sure you get a plate full at the Strawberry Social afterwards. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works. I do know there’s always leftovers.
…the photo is actually from the 2009 parade. Beautiful horse. He was delicious… seriously, am I the only one who remembers this?
That horse looks like a Friesian to me, pretty expensive animal to serve up as dinner, but I suppose it makes sense if it is for a ritual sacrifice.

We do try to keep the standards high. I mean, if you go through all the trouble of arranging a parade, you should keep the quality of the sacrifices high. Which is why we stopped using clowns.
