Construction season has officially arrived in Vankleek Hill. This year parts of Main Street, Union and High Streets are having new sidewalks built. A few years ago the contract was given to a firm that built sidewalks with 12- to 14-inch curbs on a street mostly made up of elderly people who don’t skateboard. Maybe the firm honestly thought old people could skateboard, maybe they had the lowest bid and ended up being incompetent, I don’t know, I wasn’t in the room when the tender was handed out. All I know is, if you’re riding your mobility scooter on Stanley Street, you’ll inevitably get stuck in one of the driveway dips. But if you skateboard, Stanley Street has a full mile of awesome rails.
